Workgroup Information
With an emphasis on modernizing aging infrastructure, this task has a focus of safe drinking water for all residents of region.
Desired Outcomes
- A plan to provide safe drinking water to all residents of the region
- Assist municipalities with understanding where alternative septic systems could be used to foster in-fill and low impact development
- Alignment of federal planning and investment resources that mirror the local and regional strategies for achieving sustainable communities
Progress to Date
With assistance from RCAP Solutions GROWashington-Aroostook has completed:
- A Water System Assessment for the largest drinking water systems in both counties
- Specific Water Systems Analysis
- On-going Training and Assistance to water system operators & managers
- Future Training and Assistance to water system operators & managers
Most municipalities throughout the Washington and Aroostook county region lack the funds or the ratepayer base to build or support centralized sewage disposal systems. Yet many towns need to correct sewage problems and/or seek to allow growth in existing villages. With financial and technical support from the Maine Coastal Program and the Maine Drinking Water Program, GROWashington-Aroostook has created an on-line resource:
